CFA Society South Africa in collaboration with Ninety One hosted a session on, focusing on the local and global economic developments including; challenges faced by Monetary Policy Committee’s around the world in the face of high inflation rates, low economic growth environment and a fragile financial system. Keynote Speaker, Dr Rashad Cassim, Deputy Governor of the South African Reserve Bank and a Member of the Monetary Policy Committee shared his insights and economic perspective gained from more than three decades of his illustrious career in academia, trade policy, economic research & statistics and central banking. Followed by a panel discussion featuring leading economic and investments experts: Annabel Bishop, Chief Economist at Investec Bank Limited South Africa, Dr Musimuni Dowelani, CFA, Head of Department: Finance and Investment Management at the University of Johannesburg and Sisamkele Kobus, CFA, Economic Research & Fixed Income Analyst at Ninety One as they discussed relevant economic and investment topics: • Review & Analysis of South Africa’s economic and financial markets performance, • Trade-offs faced by Monetary Policy Committees in fighting high rates of inflation, • International geopolitical developments, implications for the South African economy, • Impact of the deepening energy crisis on the South African consumer and business, • Positioning South Africa to take advantage of the Chinese economic recovery.
